Cincinnati to Louisville

Cincinnati to Louisville today !

The day started out with the water warmer than the air which made for fog on the water as you can see here as we are leaving the Four Seasons Marina. This was a great place to stay. We left at 9:00 am for Louisville...

The city was beautiful but the water was full of trash to dodge.... even a few floating Railroad ties which is a little un-nerving to see since they are so hard to see and can quickly destroy a prop and/or lower unit..

The murals painted on the flood wall were right below our hotel on the Kentucky side of the river.

This was our Marriott hotel looking back at the city. We were on the 14th floor which gave us a great view

As we came to the power plant on the right the air was still chilly 72 deg and the water temp spiked up to 90+ degrees producing more fog. I bet this is a navigation hazard for the towboats in the winter... didn't see any dead fish floating from the heat...

Looks like a new hotel going up...the building on the right is Ivy Tech..

This is an electric E-Crane off loading coal...

We stopped here for ice and were surprised at how nice the marina was.

Canal back to the marina was plenty deep.

The water was smooth with plenty of Sparkles!

Little town of Rising Sun with great riverfront

Water was slick as glass with few boaters in this section

A few skiers were out...

This house has killer landscaping and a pool overlooking the river.

We arrive back at Markland lock and Dam on our way downstream.

Admiral Viv tends the lines as we lock through...she is a Great First Mate....

You can see here all the trash in the water..

Out we go.

Look on the right wall...the leak marks were shooting water out (leaking) when we came upstream. No leak now because the lock right of the wall is down waiting for a Tow to enter. This lock and dam needs maintenance in a big way.

Tow coming in to the lock..notice how much water is exiting the front of the barge..either its got a big leak...or it uses river water to cool the cargo...

Party still cooking here..

Big town event in progress here...

Seaplane giving rides....

Lots of current in the river today giving us an additional 3 MPH as we go downstream :)

Carnival rides in progress (zoom in)..

My cousin Sue and Sam live on top of the hill...house was over 1Million to build 20+ years ago..
They sold Sam's Family farm for a Industrial Site on the river....

Lots of golf carts to get around

smooth.....

Viv retrieving her sun visor after a failed attempt to snag it from the boat. She just made it before it sank.

Clifty Falls...on top of the hill is the State Park Lodge.... overlooking the river and a power plant :(

We stayed at the lodge for New Years getaway a few years ago.. the falls in the winter all frozen was cool!

This jet appeared to be going straight up...we thought it might be part of an air show but was just a jet very high in the sky with us down low.

Lots more golf carts..

This house has a 100 foot slide into the water..

Almost to Louisville...see where the 1937 flood put the water...(zoom on side of building)

Here I'm talking to the taxi driver (he was challenged to speak English) on where we are. The road to the marina was blocked for the Bike portion of the Louisville Triathlon. We waited an hour at the marina and finally had to walk a mile to a side road that the taxi could access..

And dinner at the Bone fish grill right next to our hotel...I'm a good planner don't you think....:)
