St Johns Trip day 4

Well day 4 started with a great sunrise!

The rowing team from Stenson University was out at the crack of dawn working up a sweat..

The lake was calm and we hated to leave but we are making our way north

Was an interesting cover over this pontoon to keep it clean...surely need here as the birds and dirt seem to be on anything that sits outside

As we came through this part of the river the small marinas that rent boats, houseboats, fishing boats are numerous

There is always a story behind the name on a boat??

Many different houses

This is a huge RV park with its own marina and river access

Many Big Birds

Here a state wildlife air boat is clearing the plants from entrance to this marina. water  The water hyacinth are just taking over in many places along the river. Each plant can produce a thousand seeds. They grow so thick the block the sun and starve the water of oxygen killing the fish :(

A raft of plant floats away, when we arrive birds were hitching a ride..

Cool little draw bridge..

Birds as pets on this house boat

The vulchers are gathering......

Here we are calling for a bridge opening at Astor

Mary, the bridge tender is out of sight..

These are palms like you see in southern Florida, not so much here

Still many canals...

Big Crane..

Just so clever..

Many fish camp along the way...

Heading across Lake George.

This panorama shot hopefully give you some idea of how big the lake is. It's larger in width than Kentucky lake is at home.

Next stop was silver Glen Springs which is a freshwater springs up this creek. it is said that more than 1,000,000 gallons per day flows from far underground with the origination of the water being way up north. The water is so clear you can see all the way to the bottom but it's also very cold.

Cruising the springs in the dingy...we are a little concerned (haven't mentioned to Viv) the transom looks
cracked and water logged.... hope it holds until we get back so I'm going slow........

Viv said to get close to the hyacinth for a picture, sooooo....

Well we made it back to Spoonbill....no problem

As in June the rain is coming as we cross Lake George

This is were anchored for the night and ended another great day! Very calm and quiet.....
