St Johns Day 3 Sept 2013

Monday day 3 started at 8:30 from our overnight anchorage with the genset running (after three attempts to start it) to cool back down the boat from over night. I turned on one air conditioner then the other no problem. After the pilot house was cooled down I shut off the air conditioner and decided to turn on the water heater (which turned out to be  a bad move). After I flipped the switch, poof we lost all power and I heard a click which sounded like like a circuit breaker tripping but none were tripped. Circuit breakers tripping on a boat are part of power management since the generator can only make so much power but if you turn on to many things the load is more than the generator can make and you will trip a breaker. Its all a part of power management (the job of the captain and crew) and in this case I blew it (in more ways than one). Anyway I went to the engine room to see if I could see anything that looked amiss but no luck. The genset breaker was in the right position and all else looked fine. So ...we just decided to get underway and let the engines heat the water vs the electric as we cruised up stream.

The day was wet but like these fisherman we were not going to let it keep us from enjoying the sights, we where comfortable in the pilot house vs out in the rain.

Viv liked this picture because it shows the trees are changing color. the pictures below will give you a sense of what the areas void of people look like...

This is out on Lake George, very smooth and wet..

The water is what they call Brackish and is freshwater but the coffee color comes from the tannin from decaying plants I think..

But in some areas (the high ground) there are houses and people but those areas are less and less as you move up stream.

Fishing in the rain....

Check out the air boat..

Beach looks great but with that alligator no wonder no one it there....

Bridge at Astor

One of the few cruising boats on the river..

  1. Norm, why are some pixs sharp and others blurry? Identify and no more blurry pixs.
