St. John's trip final day

Well it's our final day and we awoke to beautiful morning had breakfast and then again practiced more touching go docking at various locations in Green Cove Springs Marina. Ken met us at the boat and gave us a tour of an N47 as well as a GH 47. Both boats have a lot of great features and we particularly like the fact that they have a very shallow draft and are built very solid. The N47 has a full stand up engine room with two inverters capable of running one of the air conditioners/heaters  without the generator running.

Now we are the Jacksonville airport getting ready to get on the plane.

  1. Just remember - there are no free lunches - unless the battery capacity is large it cannot run air conditioning 24x7... and how are you going to fill a large battery bank? Solar is the only way which makes sense... so you will need at least five 240 watt panels to run the a/c during the night... or 10 panels for 24x7 a/c - that requires a big battery bank... lots of space else lots of money for high tech LiFe batteries which can melt through your fiberglass boat during a critical short-circuit etc... best bank for the buck? A small genset and a larger genset with a solar array system.

Like shallow? OK for rivers but not in the ocean going over to the Islands etc... deep draft is your friend and reduces ship motion unless you once again want to invest in stabiliers be they paravanes or actice stabilizers or the new gyro stabilizer... everything has a price vs benefit... balancing it all for your intended service and budget is the key.

So glad you and the Admiral had a great time... now back to work.... lol

    RETIREMENT?

  2. Captain,

What did you learn about this boat, your voyage and your skill set... What did the Admiral learn? I'm watching for your posts.
